Sway — Community Guidelines

Effective: on the first public release of the Sway iOS app · Version 1.2 · Last Updated: August 11, 2026 · Contact: support@swayos.us

The one rule

Sway is real people, real names, real places. Everything below follows from that. If a behavior would make someone regret telling their friends where they are, it doesn't belong here.

1. Be who you are

  • Register with your real first and last name.
  • Don't impersonate another person, a venue, a school, or Sway.
  • One account per person. No shared, sold, resold, or bulk-created accounts.
  • Don't create a new account to get around a ban.

2. Don't use presence against people

This is the line that matters most on this app. Do not:

  • Track, follow, monitor, stalk, or show up to intercept someone who did not invite you.
  • Screenshot or repost someone's location, Crew, or plans outside the audience they chose.
  • Pressure anyone to turn off ghost mode, share their location, or "prove" where they are.
  • Use Sway to figure out when someone's room, house, or dorm is empty.
  • Aggregate someone's history to build a pattern of their movements.

Sharing another person's location without their consent can be a crime, and it is always a permanent ban here.

3. Don't fake presence

The participation record only means something if it's honest.

  • Don't post that you're somewhere you aren't.
  • Don't inflate headcounts, create fake momentum, or coordinate false "going" waves.
  • Don't run bots, scripts, or automation against Sway.
  • Don't create Crews to manufacture activity at a venue.

4. Don't harm people

No harassment, bullying, threats, intimidation, or sustained unwanted contact. No hate speech or attacks based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, or veteran status. No sexual harassment, non-consensual intimate imagery, or sexual content involving anyone under 18 — ever, without exception, reported to NCMEC and law enforcement. No doxxing. No encouraging self-harm. No violent extremism.

Contact details friends share on their profile (Instagram, Snapchat, Venmo, phone) are for people you both accepted as friends — do not harvest, scrape, spam, or misuse them. Misuse is harassment.

5. Don't make nightlife dangerous

Sway operates around venues that serve alcohol. That comes with responsibilities:

  • No pressuring, daring, shaming, competing, or keeping score about drinking or drug use. Sway will never count, rank, or reward consumption, and neither will you on it.
  • No hazing or organizing hazing, in any form.
  • No arranging alcohol for anyone under 21 or any illegal substance.
  • No organizing fights, ambushes, raids, or brigading a venue.
  • Don't post a place you know to be unsafe, at capacity, or closed to draw a crowd.

If someone is in danger, call 911 or campus security. Sway is not an emergency service and no one at Sway is monitoring in real time.

6. Don't abuse the platform

No spam, commercial promotion, or solicitation without our written permission. No scraping, crawling, or bulk data collection. No probing security, evading rate limits, or circumventing ghost mode or any visibility control. No malware or interference with the Service.

7. How to report and block — and what we do

Report: long-press anywhere a person appears — a profile, your friends list, the people-nearby list, a Crew roster — and choose Report. Or email support@swayos.us, which works for anything at all, including a post. Block: long-press the same rows and choose Block. Blocking also removes the friendship. A blocked person cannot see your posts, your presence, your Crew rosters, or reach you, and you won't see theirs — that is enforced on our servers, not just hidden in the app. Removal: we remove content that breaks these rules — slurs, hazing, harassment, consumption scoring, faked presence — and we act on accounts, not just posts.

Our commitments:

Report typeWe act within
Credible threat of harm, sexual content involving a minor, stalking24 hours, escalated to law enforcement where warranted
Harassment, doxxing, impersonation48 hours
Fake presence, spam, other7 days

We remove content that violates these Guidelines and take action on accounts. We do not publish who reported whom.

8. Enforcement

Depending on severity and history, we may: remove content · restrict a feature · limit visibility · suspend temporarily · terminate permanently · preserve records for and refer to law enforcement.

Immediate permanent ban, no warning: threats of violence · stalking or non-consensual tracking · sexual content involving a minor · non-consensual intimate imagery · doxxing · hazing · ban evasion.

Appeals: support@swayos.us. We review and respond within 14 days. Tell us what happened and what we got wrong.

9. What we will never do

We will never rank you by what you spend or drink. We will never sell your data. We will never hand a venue or a school a list of who was where. We will never build anonymous posting — anonymity is what turned other campus apps into harassment engines, and we are not repeating it.
